Bad Neighbours

Saturday, 26 March 2011
Loud music until about 2am, irritating yes but I'm not one to talk. However going out into his garden at 6am with some loud mouthed girl blabbering at top of their voices about the new HD television she's going buy - pretty annoying.

I wish I said something but its tricky though isn't it. You don't want to come across as the arsehole that comes around to complain about the noise. Clearly the best course of action is to moan about it anonymously on the internet.

Being a bit of a gutless coward confrontation is not much of an option. Does anyone have much experience dealing with bad neighbours?

My neighbours find it hilarious to throw party streamers over the fence every few weeks. Seeing as their rascally teenagers (I feel old) I do nothing.

Just talk to them, state your point in a mannered way and they may understand it. If they don't call the police and let them handle it.

  1. get to know them a little on a small basis, then it should be easier to say be quieter

Luckily my neighbors are pretty cool and we get along well. I hate shitty neighbors, though.

Usually I just take it. If it gets too bad you can always tell them gently.

It is a lose-lose situation. If it was some stranger on the street you'd be fine doing it, but falling out with your next door neighbour that you have to live by and see so often is kind of awkward; and for some it just encourages them to be even more noisy.

Calling the police can make them resent you. It just makes things worse. I'd really consider making a point of popping over and politely asking them to keep the noise down if it persists.

Im such a sloth when something loud wakes me up. Im too sleepy to summon the energy to confront the issue. If you don't have to hear an alarm in the morning to wake you up, you could invest in earplugs.

  1. Just ask them kindly, point out they're audibly making quite a lot of noise between 2-6am that is keeping you awake at night. If they don't do anything about it, or just scoff at you, tell them you asked them kindly, and because they refused to comply with a simple requestm the next time it happens you won't be so nice and the police will be called. I guarantee they won't be making much noise from then on.

Neighbour downstairs has really, really loud sex. She screams like someone is pulling her teeth out without anesthesia. The worst part is when I walk around the house and maybe my father is up and we have to pretend not to hear her moans. God damn it.

  1. I have these neighbors who like to saw and hammer things at 11 on a Friday night. I finally said something to them yesterday, but it came out a lot more polite than what I was thinking, and really didn't accomplish much.

Hate when these things happen, the worst thing is you have to be polite, you don't want them as "enemies"

  1. Call the police of them anonymously :P

  1. I agree with what Jamierod said. If it's a persistent problem, you need to confront them with it. If you're friendly about it and don't come off as a dick, there's a better chance of them feeling like dicks themselves and trying to keep the noise down in the future.

Sadly yes, I used to live in an apartment, so you can hear all sort of things that you don't want to.

  1. Ask them to quiet down first, if they don't listen get the cops involved.
